General Position Summary:

Sewers are involved in all phases of production, including cutting, material handling, inspection and sewing. They use machinery when working with product.  Capable of operating multiple workstations and performs multiple tasks.  Works on assignments that are routine in nature where limited judgment is required.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  1. Verify product for faults during manufacturing process.

  2. Operate sewing machines and guide material under needles, following edges, seams or markings.

  3. Cutoff excess material and threads on finished product.

  4. Carry out basic machine maintenance such as changing needle, thread and clamps. 

  5. Responsible for following company safety guidelines.

  6. Accountable for maintaining defined throughput (quantity per hour) standards for workstation.  Records daily throughput (quantity per hour) on work tickets.

  7. Keeps machine and work area clean and organized.

Secondary Functions:

  1. May perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

  2. Performs work in accordance with International Standards quality standards for this position.

Job Scope:

Performs duties independently with some supervision, operating from specific and definite directions and instructions. Decisions are of a routine nature made within prescribed operating guidelines, policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position is not supervisory in nature.

Interpersonal Contacts:

The most common internal contacts are with own department staff and own supervisor. Contacts are as a result of regular, on-going duties.

Specific Job Skills:

  1. Two-year experience in industrial sewing/single needle, programmable machines and overlock stitch

  2. Must have hand-eye coordination.

  3. Good eyesight and normal color vision.

Education and/or Experience:

Able to do neat, detailed work. Ability to work with team environment. Ability to produce quality product without sacrificing defined throughput (quantities per hour) expectations. Able to read and understand work instruction in English. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skill
