General Position Summary:

Responsible for the production parts.  Operates milling machines, automated drilling machining equipment and performs maintenance on both.  

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  1. Loads and starts-up machines.

  2. Operates one or more machines to produce parts as directed.

  3. Reads blueprints, drawings, and job orders for information such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of work pieces.

  4. Adjusts machine controls and changes tool settings to keep dimensions within specified tolerances.

  5. Verifies conformance of production parts to specifications using various measuring instruments.


Secondary Functions:

  1. Sharpens tools as required.

  2. Performs maintenance on the machines as required.

  3. Works effectively with little supervision.

  4. Performs work in accordance with ISO 9001 quality standards for this position.

  5. Understands company Operational Excellence directive and is responsible for quality and continuous improvement within the job scope.

Job Scope:

Performs duties independently with some supervision, operating from specific and definite directions and instructions. Decisions are of a routine nature made within prescribed operating guidelines, policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position is not supervisory in nature.

Interpersonal Contacts:

The most common internal contacts are with own department staff and own supervisor. Contacts are as a result of regular, on-going duties.

Specific Job Skills:

  1. Experience with measuring tools, such as calipers and micrometers.

  2. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.

  3. Good interpersonal skills are required in interacting with team members.

  4. Ability to produce quality product without sacrificing defined throughput (quantities per hour) expectations.

Education and/or Experience:


High school diploma or equivalent. 2 years’ experience manufacturing machine operations; experience in machine shop desirable. Able to stand for long periods of time. Able to communicate successfully with others. Ability to work independently in a team environment.
